I would highly recommend this book to just about everyone. It is a helpful review of the neuroscience of trauma alongside the personal experience of trauma, and does a wonderful job explaining the many facets of traumatic experiences- from the neurobiology to communal responses to therapeutic interventions. I was pleasantly surprised by the awareness of colonial thinking and westernized perspectives, and appreciated Dr. Perry’s appreciation, admiration, and acceptance of indigenous healing practices. The only thing holding it back from 5 stars was that I found it a little too cheesy at times. Would highly recommend the audiobook, as it is a conversation between the two authors, and very easy to listen to and understand, unlike many other popular neuroscience books.
