First book to this year. what a book to start the year.
I always enjoyed reading L.J. Shen's books, never fails.

These books can be read alone BUT I wouldn't suggest it.

It's a combination between Billionaire/Mafia Men, with stubborn, grumpy sunshine, I'm never getting married players with seemingly no emotions over anything more than POWER and MONEY.

Fall in love with these strong women who tame these stubborn men. All 4 of these stories are hard to put down, full on suspense, thrillers and steamy passion books. I never wanted it to end.
There is a 0.5 book I've yet to read about the parents of 2 of the characters, but I will get to it 'one day'.

Each book is full of friendship with the men and women along with some seriously messed up parents and pasts that haunt them. Learning to heal the past with someone to hold your hand and grab your heart gives us all hope.

At some point I really wanted to kill Kill

If you're into powerful mafia-like families then you will like this series. The Boston Belles is about the young women (and their close friends) in these two families. The Villain is the love story of Cillian Fitzpatrick and Persephone Pinrose (a friend of Sailor Brennan). If you're looking for a romance with a great plot and more depth, then you will enjoy this book. I highly recommend this series.

Such a great story, and I loved how Cillian was flawed, just like the rest of us, and how Persy made him confront his imperfections.

Ach, Cillian.

I’m torn on this one, it was such a mix bag. I equally enjoyed it, while also feeling like it was meh. The secret wasn’t what I expected and while I logically get why it was a secret for someone pushed to be perfect. I also felt like it was vilified in a way that I didn’t like... I don’t want to say much more and spoil it. But I didn’t like something so far outside of his control to be depicted as a defeat. Plus, after thinking back over the story- only one of those things was truly described as his possible secret. The other two were minimally shared, which is probably why the author had to explain them when the secret was revealed. To help the reader connect the dots. Maybe I’m more sensitive to it since I’m a therapist and understand those symptoms. Either, the story I want so badly is Ash and Sam. I need that story today and really really hope Sam’s story is next.

3 Stars

It was a cute retelling of Hades & Persephone

so I am struggling to give this book a rating.

I want to give it five stars because of entertainment value but there were some real issues in this book.

First of all, shaming sex workers. Absolutely disgusting. L.J. Shen do way fucking better.

Second of all every female side character (other than the MFC’s clique) was made out to be an airhead absolutely obsessed with the MMC, and made to behave like total idiots all in an effort to show how desirable this man is, having women fawn, fall and bend over backwards for his attention. Those characters are what incels imagine women to behave like towards hot men. There is just no need for the author to create characters for the sole purpose of being nasty with and trying to get a mans attention in a derogatory fashion.

Having said that, it became increasingly less of an issue as the book went on becacuse i eventually stopped seeing these ‘ women’ as women and more as props put in place by the author to create more drama between the MC’s. Seeing them as props is an issue in of itself, I am very aware and 100% agree, but I had to get over this issue if I wanted to continue the book.

Now moving on to the toxic romantic relationship. Loved it. A proper hate to love romance between the characters. There was just such good back and forth between the characters, they were angry and then raged at one another and then do small things to try and fix it, but then start all over again soon after. There is also bits of grovelling throughout. Just hints. Thumbs up. There was just so much passion and tension. Loved it. So much fun.

ummmmm...... the dialogue, referencing Hades and Persephone was poorly written. But other than that I don't really have much of an issue with the writing

So overall five stars for entertainment and and enemies to lovers romance. But fuck you to the author for being sexist af and shaming sex workers

Can't wait for sam and ainsleys story! He's sick as fuck and she cute af.
