A lovely little book, about a story of a 'foreign student' whose cultural differences we don't understand, but still respect and find beautiful all the same.

Tan’s art and storytelling style is so unique and beautiful and this short book is absolutely gorgeous and full of heart. I adored it.

Good gravy, Shaun Tan is incredible. This is a masterful little picture book, that would also be an excellent book for an independent reader. The illustrations are gorgeous and cute and strange (classic Shaun Tan!) and the story is just as cute and strange! The titular Eric is a foreign exchange student, although not quite what the narrator was picturing. He's not as curious about their city's landmarks and goings-on as he is in the little bits and bobs of trash he sees in the street. Eric is so goofy and I love looking at an alien story on such a small, silly scale. The art is incredible, as always, and it is an incredibly delightful read!

Although this book is supercute(TM), like all Tan's books, it just wasn't as endearing as The Lost Thing or The Red Tree. The little alien, Eric, provides a nice metaphor for cultural differences.
