I couldn’t get into the story, but I will try again soon.

I loved this book so much. The story has stayed with me alongside the questions it makes you think about. How do you deal with trauma? How should we treat each other? Organise society? Live? How to forgive? How to keep safe?
A brave, compelling, thought provoking, powerful, questioning, tender, funny, read.

I liked this book but I think I would have appreciated a true crime style book about these incidents more. I'm not religious so the philosophical discussion didn't feel relevant to me.

my only complain (and the reason i didn't give it the full 5 stars) is the annoying ass male narrator.

What a profound, sad, haunting, hopeful little book. I've seen very mixed reviews on this, with some reviewers seeming to be upset that the book is, in fact, centered on women talking, without any other plot. But to me, and to my personal tastes, there is something truly breathtaking and awe-inspiring in witnessing these women making, perhaps for the first time ever, a decision for themselves. I loved this. I'm so glad I read it.

This brought up some interesting philosophical topics. Perhaps, though, reading conversations about those topics is not the most engaging way to explore them, at least not in the context of a novel. I still want to read more from Toews, she seems like a very skilled writer, I just think this novel was flawed from the get-go.
