In the winter of 1956 pregnant young Ivy is sent in disgrace to St Margaret's, a home for unmarried mothers in the south of England, run by nuns, to have her child. Her baby daughter is adopted. Ivy will never leave.
Sixty years later, journalist Samantha stumbles upon a series of letters from Ivy to her lover, pleading with him to rescue her from St Margaret's before it is too late.

I thought I had this book figured out early on but I was wrong! Huge twist that I didn’t expect and it was incredible! Such a great book and it sucked me in. I felt like I was next to Sam trying to piece this all together. Highly recommend!

I really enjoyed this book. The part set during the modern day, I didn’t enjoy as much and Sam as a character really wound me up. However, reading about the horrors of unmarried mother and baby homes, whilst horrific, was the only thing that kept me reading this book as it was interesting and thought-provoking that things like that actually happened and people just let it continue for so long! I like the fact at the end of this book there’s a list of references or books and films (Magdalene Sisters is one of my favourites!) so I can read more into this area.

Very tragic.
This book is not something that I will re-read because it's too sad, tragic, and horrifying. The characters are well developed. There's quite a bit of flip-floping from past to present and I am not really thrilled about it. It's necessary, yes, but I think it could have been executed better.

I subscribe to book bub so I get notified of cheap books for sale. This one really intrigued me as I’ve heard stories of these types of homes existing.
What I enjoyed the most was the author’s ability to draw me into the story and her words painted a fast paced suspenseful movie for me. I didn’t want to stop reading... i would about 1/2 or 2/3 of the book you can already can sort of predict what was coming.... but I didn’t mind. It actually made me want to finish it even faster to see if my prediction of the book was right!
Im giving this book 5 stars because it really captivated my attention and I couldn’t stop thinking about it when I wasn’t reading it!
