Vol. 2 was the best, in my opinion. Aliens in a Victorian setting? Yes please! Very detail-oriented drawing style with occasional Easter eggs (look for the hidden dick in the second volume...).

This should be very entertaining and it's an interesting idea. How fun to bring all these characters together. Something about the book bored me a bit. I was ready for it to be over and I was not drawn in. I respect Alan Moore and I'm surprised about that. Not really a fan of this.

While this wasn't in the same league of extraordinary graphic novels as "Watchman" and "V for Vendetta", it had its moments.

The basic conceit is that it's every Victorian Adventure novel thrown into a blender, with a heaping helping of steampunk. It was interesting to see Captain Nemo cross paths with Edward Hyde and Dr. Moreau. It was less interesting to follow the drug-addled misadventures of Allan Quartermain.

While it was amusing at first, the Victorian parody got a bit tiring, especially when reading the print sections. The dense, stilted prose disrupted the flow of the comics, and became a chore to read.

I think I've read my last Alan Moore novel. I find his vision of the world to be senselessly dark and empty. And by God, the man simply can not write female characters.

I either love Alan Moore’s work or I find it....meh, and that’s what this was for me. Parts of the story were really good, but other parts I was bored as hell. That goes without saying I hated the parts that were more “additions” used to show character development on two of the characters. I found it so frustrating to read because of the redundancies I started getting a headache.

Against popular belief I enjoyed the film adaptation a hell of a lot more..even if the only similarities were the title and characters. But I did enjoy that the book focused more on Mina, making her more the central character rather than Allan in the film.

3,5*

The good things about 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen' are the characters and the construction of the narrative - Mr. Hyde and Nemo along with the Invisible Man are the most interesting by far. The way their unique characteristics were explored was brilliant, not what makes them extraordinary, but their ugly brutal side. Our 'heroes' have a complete disregard for humans, and that is what makes this series so interesting; Along with the way the book itself was elaborated, as if it was a comic series for children, with those little breaks to address the reader which were really entertaining.

And yet, this book was a bit disappointing. I'd love to see o more elaborate plot, and I was hoping
Nina was a vampire like in the movie (which is not that good, but that aspect of it was nice).
. The villains were the weakest part by far, a more elaborate plan with that classic Alan Moore writing was what I was hoping for, but not what I got. There were some golden moments here and there, some scenes that were quite impactful both in the scenery and in the writing. But overall, I just left feeling that it could have been better, I can appreciate what it is, it accomplishes what it's trying to be - this little comic book parody with its dark humor, dark characters, and violent scenery - and yet, I just wanted more.
