I really wanted to love it. The illustrations were retro and fit the whole 60s spy feel of the story. But I thought the dual identity/story line was messy. The transitions could've been cleaner somehow. And besides the dual identity aspect, there wasn't much else to the story. The story line was not the least bit compelling to me.

This might be my favorite picture book so far this year. Secret Agent Man (or S.A.M. for short) has to get new shoes. So he sets off with agent K. (aka Kay) to get some.
There's always one that just catches your eye and then your heart. This is one of them. I loved playing secret agents as a kid, and I still love reading about secret agents as an adult. Secret Agent Man Goes Shopping for Shoes is the perfect mix of adventure, excitement, whimsy and creativity. I love Brian Won's dual illustrations, half real life, half spy life. Wynne-Jones has the most perfect turns of phrase like "He orders the double buffalo burger with a side of snakes and an electron float." AND THE TOILET AS THE HOLDING CELL OF DESPAIR nearly killed me. AW. I can't recommend this enough.

Fun juxtaposition of real life and imagination, illustrations used really well to show the difference.

This book is full of imagination. We need more of that in our kids and this book can help develop those skills. It's reminds me of childhood, and for that I love it.
