It's good for me to read a book like this once in a while to remind myself that being heterosexual is also pretty terrible. There's a writer and an actress in this novel, but everyone seems to be playing a role, to be nothing more than a character or a part in other people's life; once the character has served its function... It goes away. Like love.

kind of like De Beauvoir's Les Mandarins, but without the politics & philosophizing

-0.25 because any book with multiple main characters can get slightly confusing.

I like Sagan and her style of writing, though I found this book to be rather unremarkable. None of the prose really stuck out to me as particularly beautiful or insightful nor did any of the characters feel at all memorable. However, on a hot summer’s day by the sea, it was an enjoyable and quick read.
