I'm a casual fan who watches the show to connect with friends over the memes and drama. This was a quick & fun read, which worked for a vacation book. The book thoroughly describes the history of the show and details about each part of the season (i.e. night one, 101s, playoffs). I like the idea of the bachelor being a sport, but this book ultimate falls flat in sharing the hard data & statistics gathered during "the hyperbinge". If you are looking for more data & statistical analysis, follow @bachelordata on IG. I've never listened to GOR podcast and the book did not persuade me to start.

This book is true to its title in that it is a ‘how to’ for anyone who wants to be cast on The Bachelor (and “win”), which I found to be a bit cheesy, especially with their tips on how to get more Instagram followers. Instead, I was hoping for a more in depth analysis of the statistics the authors gathered through their rewatching of every episode of the franchise. Regardless, an entertaining read.

I have only watched maybe three seasons of The Bachelor in my life, which made this reading experience hilariously confusing and satirically fascinating in the best way. By having distance from much of the franchise and its beloved (and hated) characters, I was able to hone in on the utter dedication of the authors and their method of breaking down the "game" of finding love for TRR ("the right reasons," duh) into stats and a playbook suited to an NFL field. I'm sure this will be even more fun for true fans of the Bach Nation, so I'd recommend it.

Okay, this book was funny. The Bachelor as a sport is fuNnY. Over-analyzing frivolous things IS FUNNY. It was the perfect mindless listen... ironic, self-deprecating, self-aware, yet surprisingly critical when needed.

The acronyms were a bit much & I often forgot what they were referring to, but I loved the talk of "strategies" & "gameplay" complete with examples from different seasons. Truly a clever, comprehensive, and hilarious listen whether you love The Bachelor, or love to hate it.

Including the 5 pieces of equipment used during "play", & how each is used in this review because it made me laugh:
1. The Personal Tragedy Card (aka sob story) (Guarantees a rose, so time it well) (Don’t leave unplayed)
2. Emotional walls (Erect for an element of "chase") (Take down at the right time to reflect "progress")
3. The 4 Love Levels ("i like u" --> "i can see myself falling for u" ---> I'm falling for u" --> "ily")
4. Tears (Happy or sad) (Score you screen time) (Best played alongside a tragedy card or well-constructed wall)
5. Kisses (Use early & often)
*Tears & kisses serve mostly to augment the use of other equipment.

unless you listen to Game of Roses you will never understand why I love the professional sport known as The Bachelor (and that’s okay)

Unless you’ve spent countless hours of your life watching, analyzing, and making fun of the Bachelor franchise, this book will be meaningless to you. But, a medium-time fan like myself can appreciate Kultgen and Pace’s dissection of the show, in a tone that’s simultaneously serious and tongue-in-cheek.
