I had seen the tv show, loved it, so wanted to read the book because well yeah I love to read. I was happily surprised by the accuracy of the tv adaptation every time I read a scene or dialogue that sounded familiar. Some things were just read out loud from the book and I adore that accuracy, because it is fucking rare as all of us know by now. Anywho, strongly recommend this book if you like contemporary fiction. (Beware of triggering topics before reading)

"Todos esses anos eles foram como duas plantinhas, dividindo o mesmo pedaço de terra, crescendo um ao redor do outro, se contorcendo pra criar espaço, tomando certas atitudes improváveis."

“I’m not a religious person but I do sometimes think God made you for me”. Crying and throwing up

I related to Connell too much 👩🏻‍🦯👩🏻‍🦯.I don’t have one negative thing to say about this book, obviously there’s the whole quotation dialogue thing but I didn’t mind it after the first bit. I love Connell so much. The story is just a deep character study on how relationships are affected through simple communications and the drastic changes it can cause in life. The title is literally the plot like it is just about normal people doing everyday things with a lack of communication due to trauma and how things can end up

Feels like I'm one of the last people alive to read this book. I guess it’s cheating since I saw the TV show first and enjoyed it, but I’m officially coming out as Pro Rooney.

Rooney's writing was lovely. (Minus the quotation mark thing. It’s not quirky, just annoying!)  I really liked peeking into Connell and Marianne’s heads and empathized with them hard. But boy am I glad I’m not in my early 20s anymore. The social anxiety, insecurities, the ennui, my brain in general before therapy…do not want to go back, thank you!!
