I never understood the concept of love, and I am more confused after this book.
P.S. What is normal to you?

After the first 60 pages, I felt pretty validated - I thought this was yet another overhyped TikTok book that failed to deliver on its applause. I’m so glad I was wrong.
This book perfectly encapsulates a raw, confusing, insecure time of life. A time where you do not know how to love but desperately try. It made me constantly reflect on my own past. I’m very glad I read it.

I really really liked this book. I went in not knowing anything about it and I was completely obsessed. Once I finished it, I watched the miniseries on Hulu, and it was just as great as the book. I've already recommended this to some of my friends and I can't wait for them to read it.

I actually liked the show better, which rarely happens. But there was so little going on that it was more enjoyable to watch it than to read it. And they were so similar, they did a great job adapting the book into the show.

What an upfront, blunt, and raw book. The characters although quite annoying at times were just wholly human. I really enjoyed getting to know Marianne and Connell throughout the book.
I love how the author wrote Marianne with autistic traits and her struggle growing up with them. I liked how the author linked Marianne’s trauma from abuse to her struggles within her relationships throughout college. Her struggle with seeing her self as worthy was so raw and real that I felt so much emotion towards her character. Her thought process was utterly fascinating and really expresses her struggle with good and bad within herself. Finally her character explores growing up socially as an autistic girl and how eventually she understands society.
Cornell’s character was beyond frustrating at moments. He was unsure of what he wanted and could never really voice what he wanted. He was terrible at communicating and at times critiqued Marianne’s “abnormal” traits. At the beginning his character was weak and he didn’t fully know himself. He really struggles with how he is perceived and who he is as a person. He doesn’t stand up for Marianne at first and doesn’t know how to be himself around others.
Although both characters were annoying at times their character development was amazing. Both characters became their own person and although in the end they went separate ways it was a complete end with a positive outlook for their futures.
