Mayer discusses how gut microbiome functions and influences the mind. Studies mentioned are very interesting. VERY complete bibliography. One problem I do have with the book is that he frequently goes off on anecdotes/tangents about what he THINKS could be happening. More science less theorizing.

Learning about the microorganisms was interesting but the amount of times the author went on a tangent including a personal story that really didn’t add anything to the book was TOO many.
The things I found interesting and actually wanted to know more didn’t have enough information and the things I absolutely did not care about often had multiple pages dedicated to it.
Super bummed because I had been looking forward to reading this for several years and it has disappointed me.

Fascinating science behind our guts, mental health, and the food we put in our bodies. There is so much more information to come about all of this. Some of it was far-fetched ideas that he is predicting without evidence, but he is clear when he's doing this. I just don't love the idea of putting those thoughts out there without the science to back it up in a book of this kind.
