I read the Tattooist of Aushwitz about two years ago and it impacted me so much I couldn’t bring myself to read this one.

It’ll be a while before I tackle the third.

I feel bad giving a lower star rating to a book about the aftermath of the holocaust. I just do not connect with the writing style of Heather Morris. I am one who likes to connect to the people in the book emotionally and for some reason I just don’t in her books. So it’s a case of “it’s not you, it’s me”. Another book that a lot of people really like that just didn’t do it for me.

After loving The Tattooist of Auschwitz I was reluctant to read this, not knowing the direction of the book. I'm so glad I finally got round to reading it - I enjoyed it more than the first!

Cilka's Journey is even more saddening, sadistic and heartbreaking than its predecessor. To think that people survived this for so long is unreal.

I think historical fiction is a great way to learn and I've learnt so much about this period of history from both of these books.

Nevarēja būt un precēt to ko vēlies jo režīms to neļāva.

I devoured the tattooist of auschwitz and was so excited to continue w Cilka’s journey…but her story (another tragic one) just didn’t pull me in as the Tattooist did. I did like the ending but it def took some willpower to stick this one out.
