Vicious, bleak, and surprisingly hopeful. Trope characters we’ve all seen or read before are showcased in a sort of flipped axis. They are wannabe tropes that their world never allowed them the luxury of becoming fully; fully intentional by the author.

Like the Amazement Park within the book, Hide is full of corners and mazes that are there to keep you guessing and wondering why any of this is happening or matters. By the middle-mark, I found myself reading with an important mission to learn everything. Hide is campy, but sincere, horrifying, but heartfelt, sinister, but warm. It was everything I love from horrors with a twist.
