Such a touching and sad story, yet at the same time, romantic and laugh out loud funny.

This book had me feeling all the feelings, something of an emotional roller coaster.

This book is primarily character driven, and whilst a high stakes immersive plot takes a back seat to what I usually go for, this novel did not disappoint. I was so invested in Johnny  and Shannon's (like the river) story, I literally could not put it down.

Just a word of warning to read the trigger warnings as emotional resilience is required and a note that the story ends on a cliffhanger.

Shan and Joey’s father was a piece of shit who should be put in jail for what he had been doing to his wife and children. What kind of bastard would lay their hands on their children. Sick fuck kind! I have a feeling that Johnny’s lawyer father would get the Lynch siblings out of their freaking miserable and unfortunate situation. Well done talking about the horrible Lynch father let’s go back to people at Tommen. Gibsie aka King Clint was one of the most hilarious characters I’ve read. I cackled every time words came out of his mouth and I admired him creativity on the nicknames he gave to people on Johnny’s contact. Gibsie and Claire clearly love each other and they acted like an old married couple throughout the whole book which was so funny to see them together. And oh my Johnny was so mature for his age, reminding me Garrett from the Deal. He offered Shan protection which turned out to be the thing she needed the most with her past bullying from her old school and ongoing domestic violence. I believe he should learn about the incident in the last chapter in this book soon and helped Shan to learn to protect herself and stand up for herself.

This was a slow burn YA romance. While dick and balls were mentioned countless time there was no sex in this book and we only got 3 kisses all towards the end of this book.

This book was amazing and I am so happy that it exists. I mean it literally reminded me why I enjoy reading after slumping for the better part of 2 months. Seriously this is 6 our of 5 ...100 out of 5 stars for me.

This book contains content that may be trigging for some so please make sure to check trigger warnings before reading. Let me say going into this book I was a little afraid and not sure if I would be able to read this as abuse is heavily mentioned and there are on page scenes not to mention how long it it. But I am beyond happy that I continued with it because it was amazing. This book was written perfectly and the descriptions and banter between the characters was handled perfectly. Even the hard topics I felt were addressed correctly. There is cliff hanger at the end of this book so make sure to have the 2nd book Keeping 13 on hand because you will want to jump right in. While this book may seem daunting because of the length it honestly reads really quickly and doesn't feel like 600 pages at all.

I absolutely adore all of the characters in this book and the relationships. Johnny and Shannon seem to have such a genuine care and respect for each other and it was great to be able to see their relationship grow and their characters grow as well. Some of my favorite side characters ever were in this book ie Gibsie and I can't wait to get to his story.

As someone who understands all too much what Shannon has gone through and the growth it takes to reach the point she is at by the end of this book it was very hard to read but a very accurate description of the events and I enjoyed being able to get her thoughts along the way.

I currently have the newly trade publish edition and am hunting the indie edition that is how much I loved this book. I would encourage everyone to read it as long as they feel comfortable with the triggers.
