This just wasn't for me, even though the description seemed like it would be something I'd love. I found my mind wandering a lot when I read it and never became fully engaged. Had to stop reading. It's my policy that life is too short, and there are too many good books out there, to spend time on one that's just not fulfilling its promise, at least for me, personally. I gave it more than my usual chance --- 150 pages in, vs. my usual rule of "if it doesn't engage me in 50 pages, I can put it aside." I really wanted to like it.

DNF - It wasn't bad but I just couldn't get into it. Maybe it was just the wrong time for me to read it. I may go back to it & try again at a later date

I had forgotten how much I enjoy this series.

I enjoyed this installment of the Maisie Dobbs series. Maisie gets involved in intelligence activities in the pre WWIi era, as well as caught in the middle of a murder case. Good read.

8th in the series and they just keep going! Always a good palate cleanser - British political murder mystery with familiar characters. As the story moves closer toward WWil, though, there's more plot points around N*zis and f*scism, and I'm sure that'll only get more prominent in the books ahead.

Thank you Goodreads for this lovely First Reads book. While I didn't absolutely love it as a lot of other people seem to, I did enjoy getting introduced to Maisie Dobbs. I'm not sure if I would have enjoyed this story more had I read the other books in the series first. The beginning bored me, and I had trouble getting into the book. Also, the mysteries involved in this book didn't draw me in very much, and I never had a urgent desire to see what would happen next. I will say, though, that I am quite intrigued by Miss Dobbs, and I will definitely check out the earlier books in the series.
