I loved this book. It really frames the struggle of being culturally and religiously Jewish or a lack thereof, yet wanting to remain close to Jewishness.

As other reviewers have said, this book is thought provoking; the author managed to provide a lot of educational content that fit smoothly into the characters’ conversations, or background. I had a lot to learn from this book and it was engaging and warm.

I found Zack endearing and I think the book poses a problem that for readers not connected with his culture or family experience (myself included), seems like an easy decision. I appreciated the challenge of pushing myself to understand his struggle.

I did see other reviews saying that they were disappointed because they expected more of a romance / chicklit vibe — that wasn’t my expectation going in, but I can see why someone would be disappointed by that. So if you’re looking into reading, just know that it’s not a “romance” novel.

Much more thought provoking than I anticipated. While this topic can lead to fluff stories with easy "hollywood" answers, this does not shy from the complicated questions that all Jews face in this modern world in so form or fashion. Who is a Jew? What is it to be a Jew? How do we sustain our religion?

Entertaining, engaging main character that starts to grate on you as the typical "Nice Jewish Boy" can do, you connect to Zach, the main character, as he forms his identity, while taking on the nightmares of his holocaust survivor parents.

This book turned out to be much more serious and thought provoking than I anticipated! Intermarriage, Jewish legacy and memory, Holocaust and the importance of family are all at play here.
The story is sensitively told and it the ending was not predictable. (Although I'm happy with how it played out!)
