Wow. Just wow.
I was made to fall in love with these characters. Some emotions did not start off in the same way however, but all (well almost all) hated characters made me love them in the end. The only complaint I have for this book is that the ending felt a little rushed; I had been hoping for a more detailed conclusion which gave the characters a chance to enjoy the relationships formed by the end. BUT I still really loved this book - K.L. Walther, you did it again.

This book takes place over a course of a year. The main character (Mads) is 17 years old who is her brother’s fiancée’s bridesmaid. And she doesn’t enjoy her brother’s fiancée because she doesn’t understand her and finds it hard to truly get to know her. And some drama stirs there.
On the other hand, the group of bridesmaids encourages Mads to try new things, specifically dating since she has a busy life and never dated. She experiences everything for the first time in the dating world. And then more drama happens.
And then there is a love triangle, Mads’s 10 year long friendship with her next door neighbour Connor, and Marco, a college student who she finds annoying but also attractive. And you guessed it, more drama.
As a 17 year old who has barely any experience in the dating world, this book was relatable and also fun. As a person who is afraid of putting myself out there dating wise, it was helpful to understand what it could be like out there.
I can see why people older than 17 wouldn’t enjoy it. The book takes place ONLY through the eyes of a 17 year old girl.
But overall, I would rate this book a 4/5. I enjoyed it, but there was a lot more drama than expected. Family drama, friends drama, dating drama. It was a lot but it was a quick read for me. There was also a few Taylor Swift references that really made my day as a swiftie. And it wasn’t just Taylor. There were a lot of references to popular artists today and TV shows. It felt familiar which I really liked.
I also recommend reading “The Summer of Broken Rules” because a few of the main characters made appearances in there, which also made my day. You could also read “Maybe Meant To Be” to understand some of the character references more because there also is a few appearances from characters in that book.

if you liked the summer of broken rules by this author, you'll probably like this one too, mostly for the same reasons (minus the portrayal of grief since there really isn't anything of the sort in this one; there's a dead grandma who's mentioned a few times). the vibes are very similar—lots of partying, games, and a summer romance you can't shake off.
however, i was disappointed in this one for the same reasons as the summer of broken rules.
i'm a swiftie. proud of it. i WILL find a way of making a reference to my girl. however, the references in this book felt forced and out of place, like they were included just to cater to swifties as they try to catch them all like pokémon. i feel like this cheapened the writing quite a bit by relying on writing by someone else (taylor), with lines being pulled word for word from her songs. it feels a bit.... lazy, in a way? since someone already had the work of writing those lines and metaphors in the first place and they're just being yoinked.
it takes us the whole book to figure out what exactly is the problem with katie. it turns out to be a misunderstanding. surely this could have been sorted out a lot sooner; leaving the main conflict barely worked on until the very end of the book just created pacing issues and made it feel like the middle was just dragging on and on.
overall, it's a fun and easy read for the summer if you're looking for one.

This was just too young for me. I don’t like reading about 18 year olds. I also just found a lot of the characters under development. If I was in high school I feel like I would have really enjoyed it.
