Sometimes I think I don't really like romance that much and then a book like this comes and changes my mind. Big shout out to the books that can do it.

Megan's life is kinda shit. She works as a waitress, doesn't have friends, lives with her deadbeat brother who doesn't even pay rent, and is absolutely afraid to change anything. That's why when she and her ex-best friend Scarlett who'd ditched her after high school to go to some private school and stopped returning her calls get invited to their childhood friend's wedding, she isn't exactly enthusiastic about the idea. In the end, however, she decides to go on a week-long road trip to Canada with Scarlett. She had just gotten fired, she has money and a whole scrapbook waiting to be filled with memories. What could go wrong?

I love road trip stories but I often end up being disappointed in them. I feel there's too much exposition and the road trip element is always rushed. Here, however, I got the exact amount of road trip that I wanted. This book made me want to get in the car and drive somewhere (which I can't do, because COVID) so instead of, to channel that energy somewhere else, I cleaned up my bookshelves and vacuumed the house. That's what good road trip stories made me do. But honestly, this book captured the feeling of doing something outside of your comfort zone that feels absolutely crazy so well I could feel it in my bones.

Hairpin Curves is a very character-driven story. We don't get introduced to many characters and we basically spend almost the whole book with just Scarlett and Megan. And needless to say, they're amazing. Their tension and chemistry are off the page, their romance is steamy but also very sweet and despite there was a lot of bitterness between them you could see that they used to be friends and close to each other. Separately they're also very compelling characters. I love how they were very different from how the other imagined the to be even back in high school and a part of their development was realizing that they were wrong about each other. I loved how they both had their separate goals and hobbies, that didn't always fit the idea you had about them. I had a ton of feelings about them.

This book does have some sex scenes so watch out for that but what I did like is the mention and use of sex toys, which is not something I usually see in romance. It was very refreshing.

The eARC was weirdly formatted in some places, the sentences would break in the middle and start from another line which made a bit worse to read but I enjoyed the story so much that it didn't really bother me.

I'd absolutely recommend this to all the wlws out there who want to read a steamy road trip with amazing dynamics. This book put a huge smile on my face and I had a great time with it.
