I thought this book was excellent. Sebold is very open and also very self-aware (in hindsight) about the rape that she survived, the following trial, and the long road to recovery. It is very well-written and gives readers an incredibly good insight into the psychological trauma that many (most) rape and abuse survivors (and other victims of violence or trauma) struggle to overcome. Sebold doesn't try to hide her emotions or sugar-coat the situation. She wants readers to understand the ways in which our society unfairly treats rape survivors (thinking survivors provoked the rape, etc.). Simply put, she wants to tell her story. And it's a story that needs to be told - and needs to be heard.
Really powerful. May be a tough read for a rape survivor, but incredibly moving. Made me both sad and proud to have a vagina.

This book is one of the most compelling, emotionally engaging books I've ever read.
I couldn't put it down even though the subject matter of the book is a nightmare. I highly recommend this book.

this book was enthralling
very very triggering to start a book that way
I carried on reading to find justice but ended up not even being able to finish the book because I found out that she really did pick the wrong person from the lineup. like, in real life.
it was a good read until I couldn't finish it from the bad taste of that knowledge
I really enjoy the raw and truthful emotions that come with being a rape victim.

I've read two books by Alice Sebold and the writing was just beautiful. The subjects were sad but the stories were ... ok, there's no non-lame way to say it... the stories are like woven words... so intricate and lovely.
I could not put this book down once I started,an read it in two days! This is a moving, detailed account of one woman's rape and her own experience through the clue system and through recovery.
Graphic at times, and detailed, I would recommend this to anyone that is a woman and knows a woman. Anyone wanting to enter the criminal justice field should be required to read something like this. It gives an insight into victimology that can only come from a victim herself.
