"You’re still in the game and there is a literal murderer running around."
Personal rating: 3.5/⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Lincoln High seniors get to play a game, a tradition for all seniors called Assassins. Lia Prince has been planning for a year before she and her friend, Gem decided to submit their names to play the game. Little do they know, people are going to get murdered for real.
I solely bought this book off of Amazon because of the synopsis inscribed in the description of the book. To be honest, I wish they would have written a different synopsis because you'll read like 70% of the book of the synopsis alone. I'm not mad at it though, but it would be nice to be given a little bit of suspense instead of knowing 70% of the book off of the synopsis.
Lia was very annoying, like any other teenager her age. Also, she's borderline stalker-ish? Who in the world would write around everyone's schedule in their journal? At the very least, make it digital so you won't look like a weird sociopath.
The premise is very good, not going to lie but I can figure out the killer 4% going into the book. The ending seems kind of hasty, though. I'm not surprised because 70% of the book has been described in the synopsis, which, made me feel slightly spoiled with the plot.
However, I do enjoy the writing more than I have anticipated. It was a fun read.

This book was okay. It dragged at parts and the ending felt rushed and out of no where. An easy enjoyable read but nothing much to write home about.
Graphic: Body horror, Murder, Death, Blood, and Injury/Injury detail

I've always thought that Assassin sounds like fun to play. I'd probably be a babbling mess by the end of the first day, but that's neither here nor there. It always sounds great, and Linsey uses it to full effect here.
The novel is short and fast paced, so we don't get to learn a lot about any of them, but they are interesting. I'm surprised at how many people in her school have double initial names! I also thought the villain was very quick to start monologuing, but that is a grand villain tradition. At first I thought the reveal was out of nowhere, but the more I thought about it, and with a couple of sneaky checks back, I realised it was signposted everywhere. That's excellent writing.
I really enjoyed this quick, tense read. Fantastic.

I really wanted to like this book. The concept was interesting…but it fell so so flat.
Between the uninteresting characters and the not-so-romantic-romance, you’re left wanted more of just about everything. The book takes SO long to actually get into anything creepy, and for a book just barely over 200 pages, it feels like it drags on forever. There’s no urgency or anything when the first two people get murdered, one of which was gruesome and a friend, and even after the 3rd person dies the characters still want to play a game “in their memory” and “because I have nothing else to focus on”…I’m sorry but what?
Also the ending felt like it happened so quickly and nothing was actually wrapped up.
Oh well. One more book for my good reads challenge

I had higher hopes for this book. I probably shouldn’t have ignored the high school aspect of the synopsis and I wouldn’t have been disappointed but I found a juvenile aspect that I didn’t care for.
Overall it was an okay book. Maybe if juvenile aspects don’t bother you then you could enjoy it.
