Enjoyed reading about Catriona and Tayg. Lovely easy read with great Scottish plot.

I stayed with this book because I enjoyed the characters. But the narrator of this audiobook was horrendous. His voice was strident and over loud. It really distracted the listener from the tale. His Scottish accent was awful

Total guilty pleasure reading, here.

A simple (ok, SUPER simple and cliche) tale of a woman who runs away from home, finds a man, falls in love, overcomes a misunderstanding and lives happily ever after. And it all happens in medieval Scotland.

Still, the storytelling is entertaining, the sex is juicy enough to keep you excited (but not so raunchy to ruin it), and the characters are cute enough to want to read through it once you've started.

Is there anything amazing about this book?

No.

But if you're looking for a cute, amusing little love story and like the backdrop of medieval Scotland, you'll like this story (as well as the others by the author, Laurin Wittig. She's consistent.)

It started off a little slow for me, but the second half definitely picked up and the story pulled me in. I felt like there were a few flaws with some of the characters and their development, but overall it was an enjoyable book.

I'm happy to say I liked both the hero and the heroine, although I did love the hero more. The heroine was a little 'too' shrewish at times, and her reasoning to keep denying Tayg wore thin after awhile.

It was fun going along on their adventures, always wondering how it would end up and when the brothers and Dogface would catch up. I also pondered which way Alaig would go the whole book, and I like authors who keep me guessing till the end.

She obviously did her historical research too, and I loved reading about the time period and Robert the Bruce, among others.

The romance was great and the love scenes were never crude. Two things I love about a book!

As far as romances go... this one felt pretty weak. The "dialect" jarred me out of the story more often than not, and the character development seemed shallow and predictable. People seem to love this book... but I'm not really sure why!

I would actually liked to give it 2.5 stars. The core of the story was good, but in the middle it turned really typical where the heroine goes from being a shrew with a quick tongue and hard shell, meets a dashing stranger who, over time, sweeps her away without her knowing. THEN she gets all confused and mad at him but eventually ends up with him. So of course the stranger is from a clan head family, finds out a plot where she is involved. He's a player who finds that finding a wife is not what he wants until he meets her. It was sweet but just a little too stereotypical.
