Writing is somewhat solid, but othe wise it just your ordinary B-rate horror movie story. Characters are flat, boring even. Expendable. Evil is almost comicaly EXTRA bad. Nothing goes deep.

I literally made this account JUST to leave this review because there are not enough people talking about the INSANE number of mentions of p*ssing there are in this book. It actually became so distracting while reading. There were upwards of a dozen mentions of going to the bathroom in the first 50 pages I swear. And it just keeps coming up again and again lmao
I guess there are two ways to write survival horror in regard to bathrooms; either address the fact that characters have to do it and add to the discomfort/disgusting atmosphere OR not mention it at all or mention it in passing (i.e. “they dug a latrine” and thats about the end of the discussion).
It was just so distracting! Otherwise, I thought the book itself was really quite disturbing and a good example of survival horror. I was just reading it before watching the movie for the first time.
