Ok but why is Archer obsessed with
incest
as a plot device??

Wow! Where do I even start?

This was a rags to riches story about Charlie Trumper, a fruit and vegetable trader. A very intense and emotional storyline. A story that takes place for seven decades with both World Wars included and other events from other continents.

I loved the way the story switched perspective from one character to the other and covering more activities and thoughts from each one of them.

At first, I thought this 800 paged piece might be a drag, but it got better and better from each page turn. The last 150 pages really had me reading as fast as I can. Marvelous writing and a great ending.

I've read two works of Jeffrey Archer this year a they've been solid 5 stars.

Obviously, Archer has a trick. He has the good guys, and the bad guys and they fight over generations.
Charlie is a great character, a self-made man coming from the East End and working his way to Eton Square. He takes some shortcuts but does it with enough charm that you can forgive his missteps. It is clear he means well and wants the best for most of the people in his surrounding. On the other side, there is Ms. Trentham who has all the tricks in the book to make his life miserable. It was soo nerve-wracking for me as a reader I got upset by things she did. As the book is told from multiple points of view you get all sides and know things as a reader the other characters are not aware of which adds to that feeling of things going wrong.
I always like that the female characters in Archer's books are strong. They are able to support themselves and take care of stuff.

Haha, this book took a full year to read. It is the one we have on our kindle that I read to my wife, Whitney, when she can't sleep. A pretty slow and happy book that worked well in lots of tiny readings.
