If I had a nickel every time I read a book in the last two months where
I do have some qualms. 1) occasionally the book equats being fat with being evil / greedy / lazy. 2) page breaks that don't change POV or skip any time.
Something like:
"Sancia reached into her pocket and threw the scribed sphere. A brilliant white flash lit up the room
...
When her eyes recovered, Sancia dove rushed the guard to grab his sword arm".

Except for a chunk in the middle which I found boring, I really really enjoyed this book.
It gave me very first-born vibes in terms of story line and the personality of the MC but as I thoroughly enjoyed the Mistborn trilogy, I enjoyed this one too!
I didn't have a deep connection with the characters, I found I just didn't really care about them that much.
What I absolutely loved though was the world. The Magic system was amazing, I was completely enthralled by it. It felt like something I hadn't read before.
This book has
- A heist
- The start of a sapphic romance (and what I loved about this, is that it was completely natural. It was approached by the author as if it was a hetero romance (and by that I mean, there was no sexual questioning, there was no hint that it was wrong. It was just oh yes. Here is the love interest. Like hetero romances do.) And none of the characters were disgusted by it or it was made to be a secret or shocked that two women wanted to he with each other.
It was SO refreshing to read a story like that. I haven't since Priory of the Orange Tree.
- cyberpunk epic fantasy
- Badass women
- funny moments
- diverse characters (the two main characters are black)
I just overall enjoyed this book and IMMEDIATELY bought the second book.
