I really enjoyed the start of this trilogy! Magical and gender politics unite, mystery, demons and backstabbing!

Fantastic trans rep and character conversation surrounding it and dealing with terfs.

The ENDING!!

Meh. Pretty boring. I felt like the social messages was too on the nose too. I know it’s supposed to be about JK Rowling and I agree with the political commentary but I felt like it was basically beating me over the head with it. The characters/prose felt that way too with how they showed everything. The writing just isn’t for me

I absolutely love witchy read and this book did not disappoint. What sets Her Majesty's Royal Coven apart from typical witchy reads is its refreshing focus on courtly politics and the intricate dynamics of power within a magical society in the modern world. By incorporating discussions of systemic racism and LGBTQ issues, the book adds depth and relevance to its narrative, exploring the complexities of identity and societal structures

I absolutely loved Juno Dawson writing style, I had so many laugh out loud moments at the one liners she drops. It made the relationship between the characters come alive, the banter between the main characters made their friendship believable. I'd love to be a part of this friendship group and of course I want to be a witch even more than I did before.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I'm already itching to dive into the next installment, I'd already picked The Shadow Cabinet up from my local library before finishing this. The story was so engrossing that I simply can't wait to see what happens next.

Love love love this but HATED the ending but mostly because I don’t like what’s happening for those people, not because the ending was actually bad. I have a full TBR so I don’t think I’ll read the rest of the series just yet but it is on my to buy list!

Following four women who grew up together in Her Majesty’s Royal Coven this book is a great look at gender and identity in a fantasy setting. Loved the world building in this book and how it integrated the coven and witches into our current world. The characters were my favourite aspect of this book, each person was well fully formed with flaws.
