It took me just under two months to get though, weaving in other books.
The cast of characters was huge but King does a great job of helping you to stay on top of who’s who as you get deeper into the book.
So many interesting themes and questions are raised with this, and while the scope is large, it all fits! Family, death, violence, grief, survival, sociology, community, politics, law and order, religion, war, and more. It’s all in here.
It is all about a global pandemic, so if you’re feeling like it’s too close to home, then pass. I kept on thinking about it how terrifying the beginning segments would have been if I’d started reading it a year earlier.
Graphic: Death, Gun violence, Sexual assault, Suicide, Violence, Medical content, and Murder
Moderate: Pregnancy
Minor: Torture and Vomit

This will be the last Stephen King book I'm tempted to read. He's gross and I'm done with him.

Use of antiblack slurs especially near the beginning. Descriptions of dead bodies and varying states of decay all throughout. Major themes of Christianity but it's of the folksy Americana flavor rather than institutional. A character overdoses on drugs, quite possibly on purpose. As is what seems to be a common trope in King's stories, a fat character is described as unhygienic, petty to the point of childishness, and obsessed with sex, then later becomes a major antagonist out of jealousy. Oddly repetitive, almost dehumanizing descriptions of the eyes of the only Asian character, who is Chinese. A character uses a gun to
