Honourable Mention: “Vampires tan, just like you and me. Well, just like you. I tend to bleach.”

Stephanie (later Valkyrie) is thrown into a life of magic, fighting and survival after the death of her uncle (causing her to inherit most of his belongings and meet his skeleton friend Skulduggery). In this book, we witness 12 year old Stephanie come close to death as she learns about this newly uncovered world, making friends, witnessing betrayal, and learning that she is descended from the Ancient Ones.

I was not expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did. It felt like a lot was happening to poor Stephanie but it was a very quick and easy read and Skulduggery’s humour was incredible and I am now feeling far too attached to these characters already.

Good. Basically Dresden for children, but still very good.

I feel strangely guilty not finishing this book, but I am in the midst of a massive book slump and this one is just way too aged down for me to enjoy!

Just as fun as I remember it being 15 years ago

A masterpiece. Absolutely life-changing.

This series is my EVERYTHING. It is insanely underrated and I wish that more people will get to experience how amazing these characters are. Literally nothing I've read since has compared. But alas, reading is very subjective so others may not love this series as much as I do, and that's okay. The first 4 books are middle-grade, but from book 5 onwards it's ya.

I could rave about the plot and characters for days.
