I'm sorry that I don't remember which Twitter friend recommended this book to me, because I'd like to thank them.
This book was tremendous fun, particularly in audio.
There are quirky characters, both in the good guys and the bad guys (and it isn't always immediately apparent which category each falls into). Stephanie is a very nice young girl with a good head on her shoulders. Thanks to her uncle, who wrote books describing some absolutely unbelievable adventures, she's able to go along with the situation when her help is needed to save the world.
The book is a great adventure. It got a little more intense than I thought it needed to at points, but overall it was the fun kind of scary.
I'm looking forward to the next book.

These books are so good. This first one has by far the best and most subtle set up for a later plot I have ever seen in my life.

I was a bit put off by the fact that one of the main characters is twelve but then again both Harry Potter and Artemis Fowl started when the titular chars were 11 so I got over it. This as a fast and fun read with some really interesting lore. I'll grab the next one soon!

Engaging Harry Potter knock-off featuring a young female heroine and a living skeleton PI. Banter was humorous, story was imaginative.

The book had a lot of great ideas. Magic, a war we do not know of, the main character himself, the secret societies... and in the end, almost nothing of it was interesting too me, though it's one of my favourite genres.
The execution of those ideas was more or less poorly done. The books contains only action and dialogue, and even for a children's book it was too lazy with description at times. Also the characters often seemed boring and the really interesting stuff was mentioned as a side note, while some explanations by the main character seemed too long and unnecessary.
Side characters would have used a good deal more of characterisation, even the main characters were lacking it at some points.
I was also bothered by the double-space printing, but that could have only been my edition.
