Nate and I listened to this on audio. It was surprisingly funny in spots, and was a good variation on the idea of a magical world existing beside and around our world. It’s got some fairly intense fight scenes - Nate was okay with it, but it wouldn’t be for all kids.
This book has been a firm favourite since I was 12 - I've read the whole series several times. I'd recommend it to anyone who's looking for something infinitely better than Harry Potter.

This is a fun book. Darker than I would have expected from a middle grade read, but a good story nonetheless.

Интересно и забавно книжле. Магическа система с доста потенциал за развитие. Предполагам, че го гледах с недоверие, защото никак не харесвам кориците на цялата поредица, но след като изслушах първата книга, бих посегнала и към следваща. През цялото време си представях, че ако това беше анимационно филмче от детството ми, щеше да ми е сред любимите. А може би е екранизирано? Не знам.
Pretty good! Lays a solid foundation for a series I hope to continue reading. The plot was a little predictable and the villain quite undercooked, but I really liked the protagonists and all the worldbuilding. I have a feeling this series will only improve as it goes on.
