I really enjoyed this. I felt it represented small country town vibe well.   The friendship process felt very authentic and the author built the suspense and mystery by interweaving it into the other story component.  The content warnings do give away the final answers.

The Museum of Broken Things is classic Aussie YA - warm, heartfelt, and funny, with characters you really care about and root for. It kind of got bogged down in exposition towards the end, plus there was a decision that some of the characters made that didn't sit right with me. Plus the male romantic lead was just too perfect - but to be fair, many of the other characters describe him as such.

Overall, a great read.

One of the side characters (a middle-aged woman) has Stage 3 Parkinson's disease and her primary carer is her teenage son. There are a few scenes where she is injured - one seriously - and is hospitalised. There are a few times in which the possibility of moving into assisted living for this character is discussed. Death of a grandparent and it is revealed later on in the novel that one of the MC's best friends died in a car crash.
