Not at all like the movie. Don't even expect it to be and you will enjoy it. I liked it and felt it was worth the time it took to read. She is a lovely writer.

Like others here I liked the movie so much better than the book. It is extremely rare for me to feel this way. In fact, I can only think of one other book...at any rate, there was a charm to the movie, a lightheartedness which I did not find in the book. That being said, Ms Harris' writing can be exquisite, and the characters seem fully realized.

loved the book and will definitely look for the sequel. Very different from the film, which I saw first, but very good - as most of the time I think it is better than the film

I’ll start by saying I did see the film first and this is one of the rare times I’d say I enjoy both the book and film. They differ quite a bit, however, I enjoyed the differences in each medium. I’d call this a kind of fairy tale-esque slice of life novel. I enjoy her style of writing and she describes enough to take you there but not overly so to bore you. The ending, however, falls a little flat and I didn’t feel quite satisfied with it. If you enjoy cozy type tales I’d say this fits the bill.
