I did think this was dumb and fun, but there was too much baby/kids stuff for me personally and a touch too much leaning on the "alpha male and can't be feminst" vibes that I won't read any additional ones in this series

Hmmm. I love if other people love this, but it just wasn't for me.
Characters were bland cookie-cutter perfect, no good explanation given for why they were attracted to each other (good looking and $$$ seemed to be Joe's main character traits.) Mabel was no great feminist shake. Left her job with zero thought. Was aching to one day be Mrs. Husband's Name. Having fancy shoes and a new car (and orgasms) were her biggest goals in life when facing impeding doom on the airplane.
Pregnancy tropes just aren't for me, so take my negative review with a grain of salt if that's your jam. So why did I read this? It says on the back cover it's an unplanned pregnancy book. This seems like more a me problem with reading a book I know I won't like than a problem with the book. Which is fair. Because listen. There were cute sprayed edges and my brain shut off and I didn't read anything but the first sentence on the back. I thought this was a book about plane crash survivors, because there were sprayed edges and my brain went, "ooooooo! Purdy!" And stopped working. If this was a character trait of a character in a romance novel, that she kept buying books simply because of pretty sprayed edges, I'd be super exhausted. So I also rate myself 2 stars.
This is book 5 in a series, of which I have not read the first 4 books. Not sure if this book would have been better if I'd read the earlier entries in the series. This felt like I wasn't missing back story--it felt stand alone. But I'll bump this rating up to 2.75 in case this is a case where having the backstory would have helped.

Mabel is terrified of flying and we find her on a plane during a storm at the beginning of the book. Enter Joe, a professional hockey player, on his way home for a wedding. He sits beside a very anxious Mabel where she proceeds to word vomit some very embarrassing confessions during a bout of turbulence. Once things settle, she realizes her mortification, and bolts for the exit as soon as humanly possible.
Little does she know that they’ll be reunited the following day at a wedding. Joe was charmed by Mabel and sought her out to spend more time with her. They spend the evening making a connection, one thing leads to another... and a few weeks later, well... congratulations, she’s pregnant!
Joe is portrayed as a scared man, afraid to be a Dad, but deep down, we discover there’s more than meets the eye. He needed the right person to help him learn what truly mattered the most to him. Watching Mabel and Joe mature together in their relationship was refreshing.

Yes! Joe Lupo for the win. This man won my heart from the very beginning of this book. He made all of her fantasies come to life in one night but he never thought she would show back up to give him the shot of a lifetime. Their connection throughout the story is so strong but the push and pull they both have will have your heart strings all messed up. At the turning point, in the story i was locked and loaded and knew they would be together forever. The ending of the story was perfect.
Joe Lupo + Slapshot = perfection

This may be my favorite book of the series and that is saying something! I have always loved Mable’s character. She is so fun and independent, she definitely deserved an epic ending. Joe Lupo is the perfect combination of Alpha Male meets cinnamon roll! Joe and Mable fit perfectly together. He makes it a mission to fulfill all her dreams (even the ones he didn’t intend to) and she helps him see life beyond hockey. You seriously don’t want to miss this book!
