My favorite out of the series! So freaking cute!!! I will read anything Melanie Harlow writes! Love this family and love how other series are drawn into this series! When you need the sweet, spicy small town hockey romance, this one will hit the spot!
I love a good surprise pregnancy trope, and Melanie Harlow nailed it in Slap Shot Surprise!
After Mabel and Joe meet on a bumpy flight where she confesses some interesting things to him, they reconnect at a wedding and have a one-night stand. When Mabel finds out she's pregnant, she tells Joe but makes it clear she doesn’t expect anything from him. Joe, a hockey player living in Chicago, can't physically be there for Mabel, but he tries, checking in, sending gifts, but it’s not enough for either of them. Even though they promised not to cross the line again, those lines get blurred.
I love that we finally got Mabel's story. She’s an accomplished woman ready for the next phase of her life, and while she knows what she wants, she understands Joe isn’t quite there yet. Joe struggles, and I honestly felt bad for him at times. He was so conflicted, but I was thrilled to see him step up in the end.
Can we also give a shoutout to the entire Buckley family? Austin and Xander were so protective, it was both funny and sweet. When Austin offered to build the crib, I teared up. And Ari? She’s the best friend everyone needs!
Also, all the hockey analogies were hilarious

Delightful surprise, this book was steamy and fun. Loved the characters and the small town feeling!
Slap Shot Surprise is stunning. Harlow illicits all the feels. Joe and Mabel are endearingly, frustrating, yet heartbreakingly, irresistible. From the surprise twists to the ironic humor and the unforgettable romance, I couldn't help but fall in love.

Why did I had this author on my TBR for so long? Joe and Mabel are the perfect duo. First chapter in And I was laughing out loud like a maniac!!! I absolutely love her writing. This book was phenomenal from start to finish. These are two strangers that meet on a flight, and the next day found themselves on a wedding. Where they have a one night stand and guess what? The hockey player scored! He lives to play hockey in another state and she is too close to her family to leave them. They have to figure out how to co-parent. However, when they start interacting more because of the baby, they found they enjoy each each other’s company. But their lives are too different, even though he is the sweetest most generous man on earth. They have to navigate through the hurdles of being new parents and long distance “friendship”. I ate this book up and loved every single page. I’m a new fan of this author.
Thank you for the chance to read this in advance. It was phenomenal.
