the first chapter ‘an unexpected party’ was easily 5 stars, some of the most beautiful writing i’ve ever read. the shire is my dream place to live!
buttttt then when the action came in after chapter one, all of that beautiful descriptive and character intense writing was lost and it just became quite blunt, super action focused and characters weren’t distinct. i became so bored and just ready for it all to be over, it lost me completely. i wanted to throw the book across the room.
i still very much love the universe! i’m off to watch the hobbit films which i’m so excited to watch because i think the films may be able to do the action justice. i feel like in films, action with non-distinct characters can be done well because you’re watching the action instead of imagining it( so the need for description and poetry isn’t necessary) . but i’ve never watched the hobbit so we shall see.
then i’m going rewatch lotr bc the fellowship is a fantasy masterpiece to me!!!
