When I saw the comparisons of Black Mirror, and X-Files, I had to jump on checking out this book. I am a fan of both shows. X-Files big time. My dad and I used to faithfully watch this show and have seen all of the movies that were made as well. Back to the book. So, I did see elements of Black Mirror and X-Files in this book which I was pleased with. One thing that I did want to mention is the book cover. It was giving me the movie District 9 vibes.
When it came to the overall story through, I felt like it did not really pick up for me until midway of Part Three. This is about the halfway point of the book. Up until this point, the story was more of a slow tease. When I got to Part Three is when the story really picked up and moved along at a faster pace. The fear is real.
Lastly, I never formed a strong connection to any of the characters. So, I did find myself not as emotionally invested in the book. Yet, there was still enough good elements I liked about this book that I would read another by Mr. Bellec.

There were characters like Natalie and Amber who where against Pulse and characters like Mark who was the son Alan Sharpe, the owner of Pulse. A mysterious outbreak happens which causes people to transform into monsters. Later, during the music event which Pulse had planned - PulseFest - comes a creature neither Pulse nor Anti-P has foreseen.
The author has a distinctive writing style. It was written very well and it kept me edge! The dialogue was written like a screenplay but everything else was described normal.
I would recommend this book if you are is looking for a horror/sci-fi book that keeps you on edge and has a interesting storyline.

Pulse is a company that has its finger in most of what is going on in technology. They are the OS that runs everything, Internet, communication, schools and with their P 7500 personal assistant robots in every home pulse has the money to crush competition, control the government, and make problems disappear.
Being such a large company pulse has its detractors that are trying to bring the company down. To bring up the company image they plan a huge party weekend of concerts called Pulsefest however something evil lurks on the grounds of the festival. Your transformation into one of the creatures will be quick if they don’t rip your throat out first.
This is a good plot for a book but it didn’t work for me. There were monsters, gory scenes and parts that had me on edge but it was hard to keep track of the timeline. It seem to jump all over the place. There was no real main character so I never knew who to keep track of, Pulse was the only common thread.
There was too much going on lab grown kids, a person that jumps through walls, and monsters that can quickly multiply.
Nothing is explained. By the time I got toward the end of the book I felt like it was just an outline and not fleshed out at all. It started to feel like a parody of a superhero movie when you went in to see horror.

What a whirlwind of a book! So many characters and sub plots, and so much going on.... (don't worry there are never spoilers in my reviews)
It's set in 2040, where a huge corporations has basically taken over the lives of just about everyone on the planet, and there's a big scheme to take them down during their biggest ever event. And while that is a story in and of itself, there's a whole lot more going on...
It's an excellent piece of escapism, with strange creatures and people who can walk through walls. But while I found the plot unrealistic (thankfully!) the characters themselves were very believable and relatable.
The action scenes were visceral, and they really draw you in. And some of these action scenes are like something out of the Matrix, which convinced me that this book would do well as a movie series.
And speaking of series, this is the first in a line of books. I don't always go on to read the second book in a series, but on this occasion, I 100% am!
