Well to be honest I liked the short story collection much more than this beginning of the epic story of the Witcher.
The fact there were no monsters, almost no magic killed the mood for me.
It's a good book though, love the style and use of short sentences.
But the short stories were more of what I expected.

i loved this so much.
The last two books felt a lot less wholesome than this one, so it was refreshing to see the development of ciri’s relationships with both yennefer and geralt.
yennefer in this was a surprise for me, and i wasnt expecting her to have such a large role this early on. from what i watched of the show, they also seemed to have misrepresented her a little bit in that because she was much more kind to ciri than i expected. i honestly like the books so much more than the show.
i enjoyed the politics of this a lot, and how it wasn’t just about geralt and his escapades like the last wish was. the intertwining of the storylines is gorgeous and i can definitely feel everything building up to a conflict in the next book.
ciri is the best part of this book for me. her personality is so funny and her interactions with geralt and yennefer kept me so engaged. she is honestly the main character of this story and i don’t know if i’ve ever loved a female protagonist this much. i cant wait to read about her growing up and to see what she becomes.
i’m so excited to start time of contempt!

I find myself torn on this one. On the one hand, it's very dry and full of disconnected snapshots of time that kind of hurt my brain and accomplish very little. There's so much time spent talking about the politics and the potential for war and only two actual fights (one a skirmish which was brilliantly done and one an alleyway brawl) and a bit of cool magical training. But while I admit to being bored I never quite got compelled to put the book down and give up. Plus lots of potential for fun future adventures

The next in the series and the story has definitely taken on a darker narrative. The world is dimensional. The conversations demonstrate different world perspectives. It’s creating an interesting political tapestry.
