Sapkowski’s comprehensive worldbuilding is conveyed through indirect but ever-present means, the periphery of the world filled out by organic conversation that can carry on for dozens of pages. You learn from gossip, economic discussion, and fearmongering — Nobody is truly a reliable narrator, just as in real life. This character-based illustration carries on at a steady clip but leaves each chapter feeling weighty.

At times a granular read but certainly investing and at times engrossing. Often quite funny! Ciri has a charmingly flawed personality that highlights the proudest and messiest traits of every character she meets.

Amazing stuff, so glad to see more of the original of Siri, the character of Reince and the trouble he brings. Brought the world into even more light.

Blood of Elves is the first real novel in Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher series, following Geralt of Rivia as he protects Ciri, a prophesied child with immense magical potential.

The first two books are a series of short stories which include many different mythological creatures and introduce the reader to key characters. This book is more serious and begins to set the scene for an epic story, adding depth to the world created in the short stories.

This is Ciri’s story and is fairly slow at times but it’s a great introduction to the rest of the series.

It just wasn’t as good! The first two short story collections were such quick reads for me and this one felt so much longer. There was a LOT of talking, a lot of new characters, and not enough cool stuff happening. Although I will say I love how much of a b*tch Yennefer is to literally everyone lol. Hopefully this is all to set up more action in the rest of the series.
