“Isn’t journeying what life is all about? the question of what lies beyond the dark hills, beyond the streaming forests, beyond the locked door?”

This is a collection of horror stories by Robert McCammon. They are all intent on making the reader uncomfortable. The horrors and surprising stories within this collection vary and some are more darker than others.

This was myself and Lauras read for this month and I wasn’t sure what we were in for with this collection. Like many there are some memorable creepy ones as well as some which were weird.

The first one “Yellowjacket Summer” was quite the opener for this collection. It definitely screamed creep factor to me with the story about killer wasps and creepy people! As we read on there were a few others which I liked such as “Makeup” about a thief who steals a case belonging to a horror star and where things go wrong when the makeup is worn, “Nightcrawlers”, “Night Calls the Green Falcon”, “The Red House” and “Something Passed By”.

I think overall this was a good selection of stories again demonstrating the author’s ability to create such horrors with his writing. The range of disturbing imagery varied with each story but again there are few I liked more than others.
