The perfect book to finish the year on, Kylie and Joe's story was compelling and I enjoyed the mystery almost as much as the feels. I assumed I would take a break from Jill Shalvis as the new year rolled around, but something tells me I will be devouring Molly and Lucas's story sooner rather than later.

I absolutely adored this. About That Kiss is my favorite book in the Heartbreaker Bay series so far. I loved the main characters, the animosity between them, the humor, and the bit of mystery mixed in. This was pretty perfect to me!

I loved Joe and Kylie. They had such great chemistry and I loved how they played off one another and the humor that was created. That animosity was really playful and a bit snarky and I ate it up. I thought Joe was fantastic, all gruff and bossy but really sweet and caring. I loved learning about his past and having him let his guard down. Those moments when he opens to her were wonderful. I loved, loved, loved Kylie! She was a tough spitfire that spoke her mind and I loved that feistiness and attitude. Together they had so many great scenes with excellent back and forth banter and I enjoyed the build of them coming together immensely.

This is one of those stories that had me smiling the entire time. It's so entertaining to read and I keep having little bursts of laughter bubble out of me. Adding to that is a really well rounded cast of characters that I feel like I've come to know since the series began. I love seeing couples and people from other books and getting updates on them, it was fantastic.

The writing was great with excellent details. I loved the dual POVs and thought both Kylie and Joe had great voices. There was a really nice mystery, suspense element happening which is one of the things that brought Joe and Kylie together and I really like how everything flowed. There were also these subtle, emotional moments that I thought were perfect when one of them opened up. There a lot of small elements woven in and I kept thinking, this is just getting better and better.

This story was just so ridiculously fun to read with these great characters who where on an adventure of sorts. I loved Joe and Kylie’s chemistry and heat, getting to know them, the bits of drama, and the overall feel the story gave me. A must read! Reading a Jill Shalvis book always feels like coming home because I know exactly what I'm going to get.

Sometimes you just need a straight forward romance book that you know will have a happy ending. Jill Shalvis is always able to do this while keeping the storyline interesting.

My review cross-posted from Wit and Sin

About That Kiss is a warm, funny read that’s classic Jill Shalvis. Kylie and Joe are endearing, vibrant characters and their love story charmed my socks off. Like all the Heartbreaker Bay books, About That Kiss draws you into a wonderful world of welcoming characters, making you want to pull up a comfy chair and get lost in their stories.

Ms. Shalvis knows how to write sigh-worthy heroes, and Joe definitely fits the bill. He’s strong, protective, and his love for his family shines on the page. He had to grow up fast at a young age; his father is a Gulf War vet with severe PTSD, so as a child Joe had to be the one to ensure his family was safe and fed. Hid childhood left its mark on him, and Joe is reticent to get involved with someone long-term, which is why he tries to resist Kylie. She gets under his skin like no one else, and I loved that she knocked Joe off balance a bit. Kylie also carries some scars from her childhood, which makes her wary of opening her heart. She has hidden vulnerabilities, but I was rooting for her to take a risk and open her heart to Joe. Kylie is the kind of heroine you want to have for a friend. She’s quick, funny, kind, and an incredibly talented woodworker. She also has an utterly adorable dog who threatens to steal the show more than once. It’s clear from the start that Kylie and Joe are simply meant to be. They’ve got buckets of chemistry and their banter made me grin more than once. So while they might resist the “L” word, Joe and Kylie don’t stand a chance. Their romance is bright, sexy, and sweet – the perfect combination.

About That Kiss is the fifth full-length book in the Heartbreaker Bay series, but it can easily be read as a standalone. Kylie and Joe’s friends – all part of the Pacific Pier Building crowd – add even more humor and warmth to this story. The friendships are as important to the story as the romance, which is part of the book’s charm. Everyone is perfectly imperfect and easy to adore. I finished About That Kiss a well-satisfied reader, but I cannot wait to see what Ms. Shalvis has in store for Joe’s sister, Molly.

About That Kiss is a charming and sweet romance that will leave you with a smile on your face and a book that will evoke hoots of laughter and smiles all around...perfect book to get you out of the winter blues

I haven't read Jill Shalvis in a while, I will admit that I didn't get a kick out of book one, so I have been nervous to get back into this series but I can say that I really enjoyed About That Kiss way more than I was expecting too. I really have to be in the mood to enjoy Jill Shalvis and I think I was in the "right" mood for this book. And I am so happy that I really enjoyed this as much as I did. It was a bit different than what I was expecting, but I was pretty happy with out it played out in the end.

Both Joe and Kylie have a love/hate relationship going on. They have a great kiss which is why the title is so aptly named "about that kiss" because honestly they keep going back to that moment. Joe has a few alpha male tendacies, he has never taken it seriously with a woman before so of course he is way out of his element with Kylie. Now Kylie has had her sights set on her boss, but the way that Joe kisses her changes everything even though she knows that Joe doesn't do relationships or long term....EVER!! And boy she feels like she is walking down a path that is so unknown.

What really made this book WOW the reader, is the chemistry that these two have. I do have to say that I LOVED their interchanges and boy these kissing changes are powerful I can tell you that much. Definitely blew me away and yeah I liked Joe's character because his whole take control and kiss the gal against the wall or inside a closet...totally did it for me. And I really got a kick out of seeing them solve a mystery together and develop some true heartfelt feelings for each other along the way. There was an almost "poignant" feel to their relationship and I just adored the way this story developed especially the romance of the story was so "on key" and I have to say Bravo to Jill Shalvis for making this book so special for me.
