The initial ASOUE trilogy is great, but The Miserable Mill is where things really start to take off. Lemony Snicket really ups the ante and the stakes become higher. It sets up for an increasingly more exciting nine further books.
The exciting:
✧ The penultimate chapter is so good! Pretty nail-biting stuff. It's also great to see things shaken up a bit, with Violet taking on Klaus' role and vice-versa.
✧ Keeps you guessing much more than the previous two books because Count Olaf's presence and his master plan is kept a mystery for considerably longer!
✧ I love trying to solve the mystery before the characters do. You could catch me flicking back through the pages trying to figure out before Violet did.
The facepalm-y:
✦ Charles, you're a great guy, but could you please grow a backbone for everyone's sake?
✦ Sir is allowed to get away with being the way he is.
And with that, it's time to move onto [b:The Austere Academy|226271|The Austere Academy (A Series of Unfortunate Events, #5)|Lemony Snicket|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1327783819l/226271._SX50_.jpg|1165972]!

3.5* ~ I think this has been my least favourite of the series so far. It felt drearier than the others and lacked the hint of humour the others have had so far. I also this the repetitiveness of the plot is getting a little tedious! It was still an entertaining read but compared to the first two books, I definitely didn't enjoy this quite as much! I'm intrigued to see where the next book takes them! I'm just hoping the streak of the same underlying story arc is somewhat broken!!
