Stavolta gli orfani Baudelaire vengono affidati a un tutore che è il capo di una sinistra segheria, il quale subito li mette a lavorare in un posto davvero pericolo per dei bambini, visto che è pieno di seghe elettriche che tagliano in due i tronchi. E non tarderà a mostrarsi ancora una volta il loro arcinemico conte Olaf, sotto i panni stavolta della segretaria dell'oculista (il conte in versione donna è davvero buffo).
Quarto romanzo della serie che non mi è dispiaciuto ma mi aspettavo di più. Interessante il fatto che Violet si troverà a mettersi al posto di suo fratello Klaus e viceversa. L'affiatamento tra i tre fratelli aumenta sempre di più.

Synopsis: Following the events of the 3rd book, the Baudelaire siblings find themselves in Paltryville working for Lucky Mills Lumbermill. During there stay they encounter a giant pincher machine, a bad casserole, a man with a cloud of smoke where his head should be, a hypnotist, a terrible accident resulting in injury, and coupons.

Review: This was my first time rereading the series in preparation for the Netflix TV show adaptation (which I binged the day it came out!) The movie adaptation had helped me remember the events of the first 3 books, but past then I only remembered places and a few characters that get introduced. THIS was my favourite childhood series and it's what I remember as being the gateway into my love of reading. Obviously these books are quite formulaic and my nostalgia is severely influencing my enjoyment of diving into these stories again. It's a really interesting experience rereading them now and seeing how accurate my memory is and how much stuff I've completely forgotten. I'm so excited to continue rereading these books :D
