I will say this about Reeve - he certainly has a talent for writing irritating and unsympathetic characters. I instantly disliked Wren, but I was confused if I was supposed to like her or not.

And that is my real gripe with this series. I can't tell if I'm supposed to like these unlikable "heroes", which adds confusion to my frustration. I barely enjoyed the first book, I really didn't like this book...and there are 5 more. Ugh.

In addition to the characters being difficult to pallet, nothing really happened in the story, it definitely felt like a tee-up of a future book rather than a story that could stand on its own, which is one my main frustrations with poorly written book series.

I don't recommend this book to anybody. I will of course finish the series because I am compelled to finish what I've started, but I'm truly dreading the next book, but perhaps I'll be pleasantly surprised? Dare to dream.

This book didn't excite me or keep me entertained as the first 2 books.

I loved the first book so much and the second was pretty good too, but this was by far the worst of the four. I hated Wren so much in this, I know she is a Naïve teen girl but she manages to mostly escape everything and understands nothing. Urg hate her so much. Also fishcake... he just annoyed me.

The rest of the new characters are likable however, I vehemently agree with some of the reviewers about Hesters "character assassination" and she was my favourite character so it really put me off the whole series - she goes from someone you can understand the motivations of to a heartless killing machine (somehow... even though she lived in Anchorage-in-Vineland for 16 years).

Just the worst of the series.

I seem to like the characters better in the third book. Hester Shaw is as cruel and heartless as ever, but I think I can at least empathize with her here...

The story itself is really interesting, but these books lack world building, at least I wanted to know more about how it works or if it works. I think if that part was a little more developed, these books would have been way better

I was initially upset that this took place 16 years after the second book, but quickly got sucked into this story. On to the last book!
