I loved Hester until this book..
adventurous dark slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

Book three about futuristic traction cities. The timeline shoots forward a bit, the world still utterly fascinating. Not much else to say since the first book in the series.

I ended up liking the shift in time to have Tom and Hester have a daughter, but it makes al relationships feel extremely weird. It seems like hardly anything has happened in terms of character development and it takes this book to break that stassis and have stuff happened again.
I also really dislike what happens with Hesters character, she turned from a somewhat sociopath to a full blown psychopath who finds enjoyment in killing people and then bragging about it.

Didn't love it like the first two books. I really didn't like Wren. When did Hester become a skilled killing machine?

The first two books in this series were good, and had potential, but to be honest this one ruined all of that for me. The 16 year gap between the second book and the third doesn’t work—it’s as if nothing has changed but somehow 16 years have passed and look, Tom and Hester have a daughter, and we’re supposed to jump right in and pick up where we left off.

He doesn’t do any of the characters justice in this book—Hester always had her flaws but at redeeming qualities too. Now she’s nothing but hateful towards everyone, even her own family—especially her own family. It’s also a little ridiculous how judgemental the world is to her; she’s got an ugly face, so clearly no one will even look at her, much less speak to her.

Tom as well was loveable in the first two books. Now he just seems noncommittal and uninteresting.

Wren is horrible to her mother and in my opinion has very few redeeming qualities. It’s hard to read a book when I dislike every character, sorry.

I also have never been a fan of almost killing characters but then having them miraculously survive/bringing them back from the dead, and this book relies heavily on that. It too often comes across as lazy writing. If you can’t commit to your deaths and move on with a different arc, then why bother?

I really didn’t intend to tear this book apart, it’s just disappointing to see potential and then have that potential go down in flames.

Im not impressed with this book but I enjoyed it much more than book two.

People seem to hate Hester's arc in this part but I didnt actually mind it. Ok ok, we missed the part when Hester became this queen of asassins while living her quier life in Anchorige. That was weird I admit. It's not like being Valentine's daughter makes you stone cold and a very skilled killer just like that.
But..
The last conversation she had with Tom? I was like "YOU GO GIRL!". It's like she finally opened her eyes ans saw what Tom's really like - wishy-washy, naive ans UBERboring.
