A fittingly understated, methodical, intrigue-filled send-off to Paul Christopher, one of the best spies in fiction. Charles McCarry’s books (at least the spy novels) always have a resigned, melancholy air of futility to them in the end; it’s a thrilling ride along the way though, nevertheless.
