Huh. Who knew there would be a book in the New 52 that I liked. Of course, the only way you could ruin Harley is by making her sane, and then she just wouldn't be Harley Quinn.

The first issue in this collection is a riot, with the fourth wall being smashed down as Harley gives her feedback on each one of several different artists to draw her. It also sets up the first arc nicely. Poison Ivy remains Harley's best friend, and these two do mayhem like no others. Can't wait to be able to read volume 2.

This was such a fun book! The art work was amazing! And the stories were funny and well written and heart warming in a very strange way. I don't think I've ever enjoyed comics as much as this one.

This was my very first venture over to DC. I know absolutely nothing about that universe except for occasionally watching The Flash and Arrow. I wasn't really planning on jumping in anytime soon though, because keeping up with Marvel events is overwhelming enough. I've also never connected with DC the way I have Marvel. However, then I saw those photos of Margot Robbie on set of the Suicide Squad. I knew nothing about that movie. I didn't even know it existed. Margot looked so incredibly badass and interesting though that I automatically needed to know more about it. I learned she was playing a character called Harley Quinn and thus, begun my adventure into DC. It took a lot of looking around the DC Wiki to understand where to even start. I also read up on Harley's history and was so so fascinated I knew she was where I wanted to start reading. I eventually learnt about The New 52 so decided to start there. And Wow.

Marvel and DC have very, very different styles of writing and art. I still haven't gotten used to the way DC writes. There were a lot of things that annoyed me (but Marvel annoys me a lot too, so I can't hold that against them), but overall it was a really great series. I LOVE Harley. She's one of the most fascinating characters I've ever read. Like, she's so far out of touch of reality but you cant help relating to her? It's so strange. Like she's a character that nobody should be able to understand, but you do? I just find the psychology behind it so incredibly interesting. And although she has moments were she seems absolutely deranged she has a way of seeming so normal? It's so great. I laughed soo much while reading this - more than in any comic I've ever read (except maybe Ms Marvel Vol 3 007).

I don't know anything about Harley's relationship with the Joker except for what I've read and while I don't think I'd be a fan of it I can't comment because I don't feel educated enough. I can comment on Harley's relationship with Ivy though, which I absolutely adore. It's seriously one of the best parts of this entire series. Every time they're together the books goes from a 4/5 to a 10. I love their dynamic so so so much. I also love Harley's dynamic with the people living in her apartment. It's cute how protective of each other they all are.

So yeah, I'm definitely going to keep reading this series! I can't wait to see what else happens. I'm also looking into some more DC series like the Suicide Squad and maybe reading back issues of Harley's. Don't think I'm going to becoming a huge Batman or Superman fan anytime soon though, sorry!!

I need to take my time moving through the Harley series. Too much Harley does interesting things to my brain.

It's really a bad idea to read a series in reverse, but it does make it fun to see why exactly Harley has a billion animals living in her home. And also why she lives in a giant warehouse/apartment complex with sideshow freaks. Holes I noticed but couldn't complain about are now getting filled, and it's pretty delightful.

Also, the opening volume is so meta, I want to own it as a single piece. It's Harley talking to the current writers of the series, and each page is a different past artist doing their take. The artwork is fantastic, and the writing is fun and funny.

Wherein DC tries to out-Deadpool Deadpool and ruins what could have been a brilliant book with both humour AND depth.

I became excited and nervous while reading the first issue of Harley Quinn. The gimmick in that opening issue is that Harley has to help pick the artist for her own comic book, so every two pages it changes entirely to another (mostly) well-known artist. They each get their turn to break the fourth wall, spin HQ like a psychotic top, and see where she lands before getting pulled off-stage. The issue goes on a really long time, and it made me wonder if the rest of the series would be as painfully unsustainable. Unfortunately, it is.

The gimmick of switching artists is of course stopped, but the spinning top routine continues to cycle through.

1. Harley is given a suitable building and has to maintain it.
2. Harley goes to her new job at a retirement home, which sparks brief missions.
3. Harley goes to play with her no-holds-barred roller derby team.
4. Harley comes home, interacts with her constantly growing cast of supporting characters.
5. Repeat.

And all through this, there are corny, not-funny jokes that only reminded me of my least enjoyable experiences reading Deadpool. I actually quit reading after the first 4 or so issues because it went from fun to boring so fast and showed no signs of redeeming itself. I wanted Harley Quinn to do amazing things, but Conner and Palmiotti get stuck in a rut and don't even know it.

Maybe certain New Yorkers would get a kick out of this? (The various NYC voices and references are loud and frequent.) Maybe people who love Deadpool?

This was a really good start to the series! The artwork was so beautiful and colorful, the writing was great and so funny, and I really felt like this was a different interpretation of Harley Quinn. She is more of an antihero in this series. She does all the wrong things for all the right reasons and I just love seeing this little group of people become like a family to her.

I also just love how much Poison Ivy is in this because they are goals. I love these two together so much! Overall, I think it was solid start to this series and I can’t wait to read the next volume!
