Well, I am immediately going to read the next one after that ending.  I have so many questions that will only be answered and resolved along the journey.

There was definite foreshadowing for some of the relationships and outcomes, some of which has come from book one which was not entirely unexpected, but was more of a pleasant callback.

Onto the next I go...

Normally I review books in my first language, Portuguese, but I had to profess my love for this series in a more “international” manner. I picked up The Cradle Series after seeing it on Reddit’s list of Best Fantasy Series and after reading 3 installments of the series I can say it definitely deserves to be on that list. Blackflame, the third book, was my most recent read on this series and my favorite to this moment. The scope is bigger, the stakes are higher, the power cultivation more exciting. Everything is bigger and better. We meet the Arelius family, the janitors of the empire and Lindon and Yerin’s new adoptive family. Eithan continues to train both Lindon an Yerin. We see Lindon going from Iron to Jade and during the amazing third act of the book we see both Lindon and Yerin advance to, respectively, Low Gold and High Gold. The fights were SO F*CKING exciting. The best ones yet. We finally see Lindon choosing a path (or being manipulated into choosing by Eithan) for his second core, the path of Blackflame. Which is extremely powerful but harmful to the user (but Lindon pure madra core seems to keep the damage under control). It was SO satisfying seeing Lindon become powerful enough to assist Yerin in fights and trials. REALLY satisfying to see Lindon just power up and develop a Badass Gold sign. Another strong point, I absolutely love the relationship dynamics between Lindon and Yerin. The building of their friendship and loyalty to one another has been so heartwarming. I hate romances, but when they held hands I couldn’t help but feel happy. I also love that Will Wight gives both characters’ depth, for instance by showing how Yerin sometimes has conflicting emotions of feeling frustrated that Lindon is advancing faster than her and feeling proud of him and glad that now they can fight side by side. Also showing how Lindon spent so much time getting out of situations through tricks and cheating that it has become second nature to him and even when he is trying to get through situations with hard work he is always paying attention to find an “easier” way. We also got to see more of Eithan, see that he also has pure madra and that is part of what draw him to Lindon. I really came to like Eithan. We got a bit of a teaser that his family has also a “marble” from the Abidan similar to Suriel’s gift to Lindon. I think we will get more on that in later books. Overall there were so many thrilling moments on Blackflame that the book solidified The Cradle Series (Books 1, 2 and 3) as my favorite read of 2021. For the enjoyment it brought me I cannot give anything less than 5 stars.
