In the not how smart are they, but how they are smart category--Goleman's books have truly changed my way of teaching and learning.
Very good read/critique on why we need to pay attention more to our emotions. It might help society more.
This book was severely underwhelming. Emotional intelligence is a skill a person can develop throughout their life, affecting their relationships, work and personal lifestyle. Despite the emphasis on how important EI is, there was no mention whatsoever on how to develop this skill. Instead, the author provided two-dimensional examples on how EI is presented in everyday life. In no means were these examples practical or even relevant to a person's everyday life like it was intended. It simply made up characters experiencing issues and how EI plays a role in those issues. This had potential to provide some seriously useful practical ideas a person could implement within their lifestyle, yet the author lacked the capacity to deliver.
Interesting but very dense and descriptive, it's like reading a thesis. It can be a good tool for parents raising yoddlers but this book isn't very helpful on a daily basis.
Anybody can become angry - that is easy, but to be angry with the right person and to the right degree and at the right time and for the right purpose, and in the right way - that is not within everybody's power and is not easy.
-Aristotle
