Gorgeous use of color, fun illustrations, an inclusive cast of characters, and a bittersweet message are all wrapped up into this beautiful little graphic novel. It’s YA so it’s a little simple, but it poignantly emphasizes the gift it is to grow old. I think there are messages here for older and younger audiences alike. I’ve been struggling with the idea of growing older a lot this year, as I’m currently the same age my mom was when she died. Life is often stressful and hard but there is magic in it too, if we remember to look for and embrace it.

I did not expect to be crying in my room while reading this middle grade graphic novel. 😭
This book does a great job at portraying the bittersweet feeling of growing up and getting older. I loved the illustrations and the storyline. It talks about the fear of getting older but also highlights the privilege that is being able to do so. It’s also a book about never losing that childlike magic even when you’re older and learning to hold on to that side of you that deep down never leaves. This might be aimed at young readers but please read this even if you’re older because this is a message that resonates with everyone. 💌
Séance tea party is going to my favorite reads of 2024 list. 🧡📖

This story perfectly captures the heartache of realizing you are leaving childhood behind and will never be able to go back, along with the sweetness of growing up and gaining new freedoms and experiences. It truly is bittersweet. The art is so cute, too <3
