* very relatable fear of growing up and losing freedom to be creative, unconventional, and wild; as adults, we tend to forget that growing up is a painful experience, and we focus on the happy nostalgic bits and ignore the presence of fear, anger, and helplessness that accompanies childhood

* by the end, I felt like my own imagination was a little bit revived to a childhood state; I felt more imaginative, creative, and generally inspired

* the side doodles covering blank parts of the pages in the beginning and end (basically times when the inner child was alive and well) were so adorable! I haven't seen that done in a graphic novel before - it literally went outside the box!

This was another book that I saw somewhere (I think Instagram) fell in love with the cover and title so I requested it from my library. It’s a middle grade story but it did almost read a bit younger, I was thinking that the characters would be older at first. It had diverse characters and good representation. The artwork was beautiful. I did enjoy the story of our main character Lora trying to find herself and navigate growing up without losing herself and having to navigate friendships as well, that’s always hard for kids as they figure out who they want to be. Alexa’s story was a sad but also moving one. It would be interesting if she got her own book to be honest. I’m glad she did finally remember her life even if it wasn’t necessarily the happiest. It was a bit of a tear jerker but I held in the waterworks lol. I would recommend this read for sure, I’m not too sure for age because they were 13-14 but I feel like it read younger than that.
